Cars celebrating movies are nothing new—look no further than the Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Edition—but the 2017 Nissan Rogue: Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition package is among those rare examples where the car itself doesn’t appear anywhere in the film it commemorates. Where the Rogue has appeared, at least recently, is in joint TV commercials hawking both the new Star Wars: Rogue One movie and the Nissan Rogue, which uses its safety systems to navigate a galactic war zone.
That co-commercial seems to be the premise on which Nissan has based the limited-production Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition package. That, and the compact crossover’s name is shared with the upcoming Star Wars movie.
However thin the Rogue’s big-screen tie-in, the Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition package—which is such a long name that we’ll shorten it to ROSWLEP—is to our knowledge the first automobile specifically targeting Star Wars fans. For $1990, the kit can be added to a front- or all-wheel-drive Rogue SV with the optional Sun and Sound package, and it brings black exterior trim, black roof rails, and a clear rear-bumper protector wearing a Star Wars logo. It also includes Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance logos for the D-pillar and Rogue One badges on the front doors. The interior is gussied up by backlit Star Wars doorsill plates, Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire logos in the cupholders, and logo floor mats. The only two paint colors available are Magnetic Black and Glacier White.
Perhaps of greatest value to the Star Wars fanatic is the option package’s included full-size Death Trooper helmet, although we’re not sure you could wear it while driving the Rogue. Exclusivity also is part of the deal, as only 5000 ROSWLEPs will be produced for the U.S. market, with another 400 slated for our friends to the north.
